The humour and seriousness is balanced very well with great performances from Chris Pratt as Star Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Vin Diesel as Grout and Dave Bautista as Drax. However it's Bradley Cooper as Rocket the raccoon who steals the show. If there's any downside it's the lack of a strong villain unfortunately seems to be a trend in the franchise, but Guardians of the Galaxy is definitely one of the best blockbusters of the year even though it's not quite as good as Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Guardians of the Galaxy Review
While I have mixed opinions on the Marvel Cinematic Universe films overall, there's no denying it's success at the box office. However, when I first heard about this adaptation of a little know comic book franchise called 'The Guardians of the Galaxy' I was quite skeptical, especially as it involves a talking tree and raccoon. But fortunately, Guardians of the Galaxy not only exceeded expectations, it also stands as one of the best of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
